SSK Okmeydanı Hastanesi Onkoloji Kliniğ The results of radiation therapy and neoadjuvant chemotherapy in stage III-IV nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Twenty-two cases of locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma who were given two courses of chemotherapy before radiotherapy were evaluated in this study. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy consisted of cisplatin 100 mg/m2 day one and 5- fluorouracil 600 mg/m2 day continuous infusion days 1,5 and was repeated on days 21. Radiotharepy was given by cobalt-60 unit and 9 MeV electron beams with 1,8-2 Gy fractions. Neck and supraclavicular area was irradiated up to 50 Gy; nasopharynx and basis cranii dose was boosted up to 70 Gy with smaller fields. Median follow up period was 19 months. Complete response rate was achieved 90.2 percent of cases. Two year survival was 77, 9 percent and disease-free survival was 59,5 percent. We concluded that an effective and tolerable method of cisplatin-based chemotherapy and radiotherapy increase locoregional control in stage III-IV nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Keywords :
