The results obtained in the multimodal treatment (radiation therapy plus chemotherapy) of 42 out of 58 Ewing's Sarcoma cases, admitted to 1st. Univ. Institute of Oncology, Dept. of Radiation Oncology, between the years 1980-1986, are evaluated according to certain prognostic factors such as, localisation, tumour volume and ESR. Two combination chemotherapy schemes are compared, simultaneously and adjuvantly administered to radiotherapy; VAC and VACA. The survival figures showed the superiority of schedules containing adriamycin (41 % vs. 28 %). The most important prognostic factor is found to be the tumour volume. The cases with soft tissue mass showed the worst prognosis (8 % vs. 60 %). The second negative prognostic factor was the ESR. The cases with ESR 40 mm/hr showed worse prognosis (7.3 % vs. 61 %). Future prospective trials considering more effective multimodel combined treatments, such as neo-adjuvant chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy, are recommended for the cases with negative prognostic factors.
