THE EVALUATION OF THE MYELOPROTECTIVE EFFECT OF HIGH DOSE MEDROXYPROGESTERONE ACETATE (MPA) AGAINST RADIATION IN EXPERIMENTAL ANIMALS BY FORMING COLONIES IN THE SPLEEN (COLONY FORMING UNITS-SPLEEN, CFU-S)

Ankara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, Radyasyon Onkolojisi AD This study covers the aim for minimizing the negative effects of radiation on bone marrow cells. One group of mice was given MPA by subcutaneous route 8 mg/kg daily and another group was given 0.009 NaCI for placebo effect. Later all mice were irradiated antero-posteriorly with Co-60 cumulative 800 cGy and then the bone marrow solutions obtained by femoral washings were transplanted to host mice groups intravenously. Ten days after the transplantation, significance between the groups were sought by evaluating the colony forming units-spleen, CFU-S in the spleen. As a result of statistical analysis, it was observed that the group that took the MPA showed significant (P<0.01) number of CFU-S compared to the placebo control group.
