GATA Radyasyon Onkolojisi Anabilim Dalı, Ankara In this retrospective study, we have analyzed 297 breast cancer cases operated and irradiated in Gülhane Military Medical Academy between 1989 and 1994 years with respect to the effect of histopathological features to disease-free and overall survivals. Stage distribution of the cases were 16.83%, 47.81 %, 31.31 %, and 4.01 % for stages I, II, III, and IV respectively. Stage by stage evaluation revealed disease-free survivals of 97%, 97% and 92% in the first year; 80%, 72%, 27% in the sixth year for stages 1, 2 and 3 respectively whilst stage 4 cases died within the first two years. Disease-free survivals in the first and sixth years respectively were determined to be 92% and 25% for patients with vascular invasion; 92% and 33% for patients with perineural invasion; 95% and 22% for patients without periductal elastosis; 93% and 41 % for patients with inflammatory cell infiltration; 93% and 50% for patients with high mitotic activity. 5 and 6 year disease-free survival of all the cases were 69% and 55% respectively whereas 5 and 6 year overall survivals were 81 % and 74%. In this study, histopathological prognostic factors are determined to be significantly effective in the last 3 years while they have no significant effect in the first three years. Awareness in prognosis may directly influence the treatment modality to be chosen. Keywords :
