Vakıf Gureba Hast., Radyasyon Onkolojisi Kliniği, İstanbul Forty-six nasopharyngeal carcinoma cases, treated between 1977-1993, were investigated retrospectively in regard to local, regional and distant failure and survival. All of the cases were treated with radiotherapy: 2 cases had nodal, 8 cases had local and 13 cases had distant failures (4.3 %, 17.3%, 28.2%, respectively). The rate of late complications was 45.6%, and fibrosis in the neck due to radiotherapy was 8.6%; the rate of the development of fibrosis between the groups treated with doses between (60Gy and >60Gy was significant (2.7 % and 33.3% respectively, P=0.019). The 5 years actuarial survival rate in our study is 10%, and the lost of follow-up is 43.4%. After the multivariate analysis, better results were obtained with the older patients, patients with higher nodal stages, patients without distant metastases, and patients treated with radiochemotherapy. Results were compared with literature. Keywords :
