Ondokuz Mayıs Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Radyasyon Onkolojisi AD Samsun Statistical evaluation according to place and geographic region of residency of cases recorded with cancer at Department of Radiation Oncology Cerrahpaşa School of Medicine: 1978-1987. In this study, 13408 cases with histological confirmed cancer who were treated at the Department of Radiation Oncology School of Medicine Cerrahpaşa from 1978 to 1987 were statistically evaluated according to place and geographic region where they live. The percent distribution of the cases with cancer in regions were as follows; 76.9% Marmara region, 9.8% Black Sea region, 3.7% Eagen region, 3.6% East Anatolian region, 2.8% Central Anatolian region, 1.7% Mediterranean region and1.5% Southeast Anatolian region. The rate of the patients who lived in the cities was 76.6%. 23.4% of the total number of cases or 3130 lived in the countryside. The percentages of first five cancer types in the cities were; 18.4% breast, 16% lung, 7.1% cervix uteri, 7.1% larynx, 5.2% central nervous system and in the countryside were; 16.8% lung, 11.8% larynx, 10.6% skin, 9.9% breast, 5.3% central nervous system.
