49 patients with tumors localised to the pons and medullo oblangata were treated during the period 1976-1989. There were 26 males and 23 females aged from 3 to 53 years with a median age of 11 years. 3 patients had biopsies and 2 patients underwent exploration prior to radiotherapy. Total tumor doses were between 4500 cGy and 6000 cGy. 12 patients also had chemotherapy. Overall survival rates for the 1st, 3rd, and 5th years are 48 % 30 % and 25 % respectively. Sex, age, total dose, chemotherapy, changes in neurologic symptoms after radiotherapy were analysed as prognostic factors. Among these, only age was found as statistically significant, showing a better prognosis for adults.
