THE EXPERIENCE OF RADIOTHERAPY WITH WATER-BASED BOLUS IN THE KAPOSI'S SARCOMA OF THE DISTAL EXTREMITIES: CASE REPORT
Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi Radyasyon Onkolojisi AD, İzmir
Superficial and widespread skin lesions of Kaposi's sarcoma are very radiosensitive. In the literature, the series are available with complete response after 800 cGy single fraction radiotherapy(RT) for the cutaneous trunk and the extremity lesions. But because of the anatomic contour irregularity in the hands and foots, obtaining the homogeneous dose distribution is difficult. Water is used for this aim. It's easy to find and aply. In addition it's reliable because of the feature of tissue equivalence .In this report, the experience and treatment results of RT with water bolus in the case who has widespread skin lesions on her distal extremity with a diagnosis of Kaposi's sarcoma has been presented in the light of retrospective series. The findings in our case who has widespread skin lesions on her hands and foots with a diagnosis of Kaposi's sarcoma is considered that the single fraction 800 cGy RT with water bolus is effective, easy to apply and tolerable treatment.
